<\/a>Dermal Fillers<\/h3>\n

These skin supplements help to fill the deep wrinkles of the face.\u00a0 They are approved specifically for those creases in and around the mouth.\u00a0 In recent years, there has been so much experimentation with these substances that we now use them for a multitude of other areas.\u00a0 They can be used to enhance lips, cheeks, temples, and other areas.\u00a0 Some of the more common fillers include Juvederm<\/a>, Restylane, and Radiesse<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The physical make-up and longevity of each dermal filler<\/a> are a little different, but it is safe to say that depending on where they are injected and the experience of the injector, these products can last for nine to 17 months.\u00a0 Some people metabolize (use them up) faster than others so they may not last as long.<\/p>\n

Dermal fillers should be used in conjunction with Botox<\/a> and similar substances in order to create the best outcome.\u00a0 Additionally, adding laser treatments also enhances the effect by treating the skin\u2019s \u00a0texture and tightness.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Do the injections hurt?<\/h3>\n

Most patients say the injections don\u2019t hurt, or very little at all.\u00a0 The fillers we use at The Blume Skin Centre are mixed with xylocaine, a numbing medication that eases any discomfort.\u00a0\u00a0 Additionally, we use a specially developed topical numbing cream for patient comfort.\u00a0\u00a0 When the numbing combination wears off, there may be a little tenderness easily treated with Tylenol.<\/p>\n

<\/a>What are the side effects I may expect?<\/h3>\n

The most common side effects are redness, bruising, and swelling.\u00a0 There is the possibility of lumps or migration (moving) of material, but these are dramatically reduced with expert injectors treating patients.\u00a0 This is most commonly seen with new or inexperienced injectors.\u00a0\u00a0 Allergic reactions are extremely rare and we have not seen any at The Blume Skin Centre or Parkway Medical before.\u00a0\u00a0 All possible side effects are discussed with a patient prior to injections.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Do I need to limit activities afterward?<\/h3>\n

Following dermal filler injections it is not advisable to drink alcohol in excess or do any exercise.\u00a0 Either (especially the exercise) will lead to a greater chance of swelling.\u00a0 It is also recommended that no massage be performed in those areas for a few days at the minimum.<\/p>\n

For an excellent outcome, it is best to see an injector with a lot of experience.\u00a0 While Dr. Blume teaches at all levels, novice to experienced, he continues to attend courses regularly.\u00a0 That is how one increases knowledge and ability.<\/p>\n
